Development and Production

Each environment keeps isolated flag values and its own hashed API key.

Server-side essentials

Security and runtime requirements for every integration.

Official SDKs are server-side only.

Never expose API keys in browser or client code.

Store API keys in environment variables.

The default fallback is false.

SDKs fail safely if SwitchPilot is unreachable.

Default cache TTL: 60 seconds.

Default stale-if-error window: 5 minutes.

Development and Production

Production is available on both plans. Every project starts with Development, and Production can be enabled to create its isolated key and disabled-by-default values. Free users can read, toggle, use Safe Toggle, see risk, and call the SDK in either environment.

After downgrade

Production and its keys remain active without modification. Existing projects and flags keep working in the UI and SDK; only creation beyond the Free resource limits is blocked.

Production keys remain active

A downgrade never deletes or disables an environment, key, flag, or Production value. Successful SDK responses keep the existing flags and updatedAt contract.
